Feeling upset because of the economy? Indulge yourself, have some soda. At least that’s what the marketers at Coca-Cola and Pepsi want you to do. They are putting their chips on the table and hoping that they will be able to appeal to consumers burdened by the financial crises.

Both companies have just launch new marketing campaigns. CocaCola launched their new campaign last week, while Pepsi launched theirs on Tuesday.

“What people want to do is pause and refresh,” said Coca-Cola chief marketing officer Joe Tripodi.

Soda-makers like Coca-Cola and Pepsie have seen major losses in recent times and not just because of the economy. What is the main culprit? Energy drinks.

Its a fact, energy drinks are expensive and Coca-Cola & Pepsi are going to use this fact to their advantage in their new marketing campaigns. They are seeking to draw customers back to the old classics by a simple lure: them being cheaper (and more economical).

Coke’s campaign features new 16 oz bottles of their top selling beverages at a cost of 99 cents. This new price point is set to capture consumers looking for a deal. Normal 20 oz cost between $1.25 and $1.50.

Coca-Cola launched a new ad campaign during American Idol last week and will continue this campaign with 3 ads during the Super Bowl.

These ads are hoping to target and capture a younger demographic. With most young people flocking toward energy drinks in the recent years Coca-Cola has lost a significant amount of growth.

Pepsi will also air ads during the SuperBowl. They will be this years biggest advertiser – airing 5 minutes or more of commercials for their bottled drinks. This comes after their launch of a brand new logo. Since the new logo has taken affect they have increased their advertising as a whole on Billboards and lots of other prime locations.

Soda sales have been falling steadily, by 2.5% in 3rd quarter alone.
